#CoPowerBudget Update for Dec and Jan  

Hopefully you had the opportunity to recharge your batteries and spend some time with loved ones over the new year period. We don’t yet live in a society where everyone can fulfil this fundamental human need but we are committed to working towards one where this is the case.

One of the beautiful elements of the growing CoPower community is that we can continue to make a material difference to the world even at quieter times of our year. In December, we put $1,000.00 to the Environmental Defenders Office to help defend climate protestors. With news of significant increase in gas prices for households and businesses coming through in January, we allocated over $5,000.00 to the Friends of the Earth campaign to get fossil gas out of our energy system. In the lead up to Invasion Day, we also allocated $5,255.00 to the Our Islands, Our Home campaign.

We also made a partial payment of our total budget allocation to The Bunya Fund which is Australia’s first co-operative development fund as part of our commitment to help build economic democracy. Finally we made another contribution to the Melbourne Pollinator Corridor project to contribute towards urban ecological regeneration. These allocations were made as part of our democratic budgeting process which is coming around again in the next few months, so we encourage our customer members to start thinking about how we can better fulfil our mission.
