Last year, as a democratic co-operative committed to building socially owned renewable energy and a just transition to the commons, CoPower announced our partnership with Overland Literary Journal. This partnership was aimed at supporting Overland’s commitment to fostering radical discourse on a range of issues related to climate change, environment and renewable energy.
The past 12 months have grimly proven the need for a fiercely independent media outlet like Overland, which has been a respected bastion of radical culture, critique and movement-building since 1954.
Now more than ever there is a moral urgency to support those media outlets who provide a platform for those speaking up about and organising against war crimes and genocide.
To this end, we have doubled the total value of our sponsorship from $5,000.00 excluding GST to $10,000.00 excluding GST. This money will come from our marketing budget as part of our overall strategy to make a positive impact even in the way in which we advertise. Part of this additional funding will support better payments for writers and creators in line with the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance (MEAA)’s Freelance Charter (with Overland having been its first signed-on publisher).
Solidarity is a two-way street and part of this renewed partnership also comes with a new year-round member benefit for CoPower members. All CoPower members (either when renewing or taking out a subscription) are entitled to 10% off their Overland Journal subscription.
